It had been a long time since I pulled the proverbial midnight oil and worked until 1:30am to complete a quilt present, clear my desk of urgent “To Do” tasks and house keeping tasks in preparation for a family gathering. My eyes paid the price! On camera, I looked like an advertisement for sleeping pills! The solution was in my list of positive actions in the New Visions Book and reminded me of how the simplest of things can be the most healing.
Eye Bright Tea Compress – An Eye Bright Tea compress was the solution…a little box of which I have had for a few years and use for these occasions. I have never been tempted to make a pot to drink ( apparently some folks do!) but do make a small cup and when it is room temperature… i use it as a compress on closed eyes.
There is a long list of this type of remedy in the New Visions repatterning book. Here are 2 more of my favorites
Rose Water Compress – chill the rose water in the fridge, then dip cotton pads into the cold rose water and place one pad on each closed eye. Relax deeply and check for a piece of soothing music to play. I heard this one on the radio and just love the sound so much I had to spend 2 hours trying to track it down online. There are many versions and I settle on this one from Kings College. There is a bit of prayer at the end that gets cut off.
The compress with the video makes a wonderful 10 minute retreat in the middle of a hectic day. It’s like having a spa moment.
Cucumber – I think of this remedy every time I peel a cucumber for salad. LOL… I must admit it is a bit of a stretch to put 2 slices aside to use on my eyes when part of me is arguing it belongs in a salad! However, for the occasions when it is needed, and a spare cucumber is staring at me from the fridge, you can’t beat the time tested remedy of cucumber slices on your eye lids. It soothes, clears away dark circles and makes you feel like you have just had an expensive spa treatment. Of course a good new age sound track in the background will help as well!
Enjoy!
