What do you choose?

bf52a-tree-houseDr. Pillemer and his team interviewed more than 1,000 seniors, archiving their responses  about happiness: “30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans” by: Dr. Pillemer. This book is the result of those conversations.

Happiness is a choice, not a condition was the overwhelming consensus. Dr. Pillemer writes, “The consensus of the elders is that we can’t wait for external events to bring about happiness.” He goes on to quote 86-year-old Cheryl who says, “I came into this world with nothing, my experiences are only mine, and I will leave this world with nothing. The only one I can change is myself. You must learn to create your own happiness; you cannot depend on others to do it for you.”

As Resonance Repatterning students and practitioners we have a beautiful structure for identifying what we want to change; how it will feel; what actions we need to take so we manifest our intentions.

In our seminars we talk about how we create our reality with our thoughts and what we choose to line our energy up with. We also learn how to find the opportunity in our problems. As long as we focus on what we don’t have or don’t want we actually create more of the very things we view as problems.

So what is the opportunity for us right now? The news and internet are full of dire predictions. Many people are disappointed and unhappy. One obvious opportunity is to change how we view happiness. If our elders are right, and I suspect they are, then maybe we can achieve happiness by having less. When we change our focus from our belief that happiness comes from the things I acquire to happiness comes from more simple pleasures then we can all benefit.

Are you doing self sessions? I do weekly sessions & sometimes more often if life is challenging me. I also like to trade sessions with my peers to bring in their data base of knowledge to support me.

I would like to hear how you are using this amazing process to improve your own life. As rewarding as it is to focus on helping others- we must remember to put our own oxygen mask on first.

It’s time to listen to our wise elders and redefine happiness. It’s time to realize that whether you are happy or unhappy is your choice. I choose to be happy. How about you?

  1. Lovely post Ardis. Reminds me of a book i read (and must re-read) called “The Happiness Advantage” by Shawn Achor . It was a long time NY times best seller. One of the principles he sites that is now proven in science is that the state of happiness precedes success. I am reminded of the the Intention section of repatterning and all of the questions that help us to envision an intention, resonate with having it and the positive feelings we want to resonate with should it manifest… which by resonating with the feeling states first contributes to our success.

    Thanks for this
