What do you choose?

bf52a-tree-houseDr. Pillemer and his team interviewed more than 1,000 seniors, archiving their responses  about happiness: “30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans” by: Dr. Pillemer. This book is the result of those conversations.

Happiness is a choice, not a condition was the overwhelming consensus. Dr. Pillemer writes, “The consensus of the elders is that we can’t wait for external events to bring about happiness.” He goes on to quote 86-year-old Cheryl who says, “I came into this world with nothing, my experiences are only mine, and I will leave this world with nothing. The only one I can change is myself. You must learn to create your own happiness; you cannot depend on others to do it for you.”

As Resonance Repatterning students and practitioners we have a beautiful structure for identifying what we want to change; how it will feel; what actions we need to take so we manifest our intentions.

In our seminars we talk about how we create our reality with our thoughts and what we choose to line our energy up with. We also learn how to find the opportunity in our problems. As long as we focus on what we don’t have or don’t want we actually create more of the very things we view as problems.

So what is the opportunity for us right now? The news and internet are full of dire predictions. Many people are disappointed and unhappy. One obvious opportunity is to change how we view happiness. If our elders are right, and I suspect they are, then maybe we can achieve happiness by having less. When we change our focus from our belief that happiness comes from the things I acquire to happiness comes from more simple pleasures then we can all benefit.

Are you doing self sessions? I do weekly sessions & sometimes more often if life is challenging me. I also like to trade sessions with my peers to bring in their data base of knowledge to support me.

I would like to hear how you are using this amazing process to improve your own life. As rewarding as it is to focus on helping others- we must remember to put our own oxygen mask on first.

It’s time to listen to our wise elders and redefine happiness. It’s time to realize that whether you are happy or unhappy is your choice. I choose to be happy. How about you?

The power of light….

DSC03697

There is a beautiful book called “And There Was Light” by Jacques Lusseyran that Chloe quotes in her New Vision book. He became totally blind as a result of a childhood accident yet could in fact ‘see’ because he was connected to his own inner light. He describes how disconnection from his own light was the only thing that could cause him to become truly ‘blind’:

“At every waking hour and even in my dreams I lived in a stream of light. There were times when the light faded, almost to the point of disappearing. It happened every time I was afraid. If, instead of letting myself be carried along by confidence I hesitated, then without exception I hit or wounded myself…What the loss of my eyes had not accomplished was brought about by fear. It made me blind.

Anger and impatience had the same effect, throwing everything into confusion. If I suddenly grew anxious to win, to be the first at all costs, then all at once I could see nothing…I could no longer afford to be jealous or unfriendly, because as soon as I was, a bandage came down over my eyes…But when I was happy and serene, approached people with confidence and thought well of them, I was rewarded with light. I always knew where the road was open and where it was closed. I had only to look at the bright signal which taught me how to live.”

Mr. Lusseyran found the opportunity in his affliction. Great words that guide us into understanding the power of our negative thoughts and attitudes. They truly contribute to our “blindness”. As Chloe says: “Light is always present, both inside and outside, but when we disconnect from our awareness of it, we lose our sense of joy in life.”

I choose light!

Don’t Miss Your Life!

It's contageous!

It’s easy!

September is almost here and for me it’s the beginning of a new year. I know January is traditionally associated with this but for me the start of school, being with my friends, meeting new ones, getting to know my teachers and learning always filled me with joy.

I just finished a wonderful article by Joe Robinson in Life and Wisdom magazine. He speaks about losing the “livin feeling”. He asks when was the last time you were so excited by a passion that people asked you “what’s up with that grin? Where you were so riveted by a new experience that you forgot you had a single problem? When did you last feel the tingle of a wow moment?”

In order to feel fully alive our energy must flow. If it is flowing freely then we have a sense of aliveness. When it is blocked we don’t. The Chinese five element system addresses energy as “chi”. which means life energy. We all have the potential for living life with passion and joy yet so many of us are unable to access this fully. We are stressed by our problems and lose our belief that we can have a life that is meaningful and joyous. We lose our “FIRE” energy.

We can choose to be alive. We can make a “too live list” as Joe Robinson suggests. We can create a set of FUN things we’d like to do or experience right now. Some of his suggestions:

1. Are there any places in your city that you have always wanted to visit: museums, galleries, restaurants, parks? Places you have always wanted to travel to?

2. What activities have you always wanted to try? Mountain biking, making jewelry, painting, sculpting, joining a softball team, playing a musical instrument?

3. What activities did you love as a kid? I read an article once that suggested if you want to be happier remember what you dreamed of as a child and follow those leads. That is a clear direction you can take towards happiness.

As we focus on our careers and adult responsibilities it is easy to forget that we are dealing with a “finite commodity”: TIME. We all have a limited engagement. So what do you want to experience while you still can?
