The Organized Mind…

DSCN0722A new book comes out tomorrow by Dr. Daniel Levitin, a neuroscientist from McGill University, called “The Organized Mind”. In this book he discusses information overload. He makes a bold statement; “multitasking is a myth, an illusion”. That is a conclusion I reached many years ago! The brain is very good at self deception so we don’t realize it.

He suggests that instead of doing many things at once we are actually “Sequential Tasking”. This means doing one thing after another but we are fractionating attention so we’re not able to really put attention into one thing.

Sequential Tasking produces stress hormones; overstimulates the brain causing mental fog; fragments concentration and stimulates cortisol production. In the end we’re not saving time we are wasting time. He suggests that we focus on one thing at a time and keep sustaining that.

Another good suggestion is to get ideas out of our head and into the external world. Write them down so you won’t forget. If you lose your keys put a hook by the door and you never have to lose them again. He also says to use phone apps to remind yourself of things so  you can release them from your mind.

He talks about 2 modes of attention: task positive network is the first. This is where we are focused on a task. The second is day dreaming mode. We are most apt to come up with creative solutions to problems. If we focus on a task all the time without taking breaks we lose the opportunity to be creative and fix problems.

“A 60 hr workweek reduces productivity 25%

A 10 minute nap=extra 90 minutes sleep per night

Daydreaming increases brain connectivity”.

In studying highly successful people he concluded:

“-they don’t wast more time on a decision than it’s worth.

-they follow David Allens two minute rule: If you can get it done in 2 minutes or less do it now. That way all the little things don’t pile up.

-prioritize on a daily basis.

-don’t get bogged down on mundane matters.

-narrow your attention filter.

-understand how to make efficient decisions”.

He considers Air Traffic Controllers as multi-taskers by necessity. He suggests that we follow their guidelines: for every hour of multi- tasking they must take 15-30 minute breaks to hit the reset button in their minds.

“-the brain is 2% of body weight=20% of our energy use.

-the processing capacity is 120 bits per second”.

His final thoughts on email habits:

“-don’t check more than 3 times daily.

-it created dopamine addiction feedback loops.

-leads to decision overload”.

An organized mind leads to a longer healthier life. If our work is efficient we can close the door on work. Then we are free to come home, relax and have fun with family and friends.

Dr. Levitin’s book is available on Amazon.

Happy reading!

Changing names – Embracing my authentic self

Have you had the experience of changing your name? Or did you ever feel that you have outgrown your name?  Carolyn Winter invited me to share my experience of repatterning my name during the 26 in 52 week Resonance Repatterning challenge.   My overall intention for this program is:

“My intention for this program is to fully and authentically embrace and resonate with my name”

Vision Backstory:  I am someone that typically would shy away from Carolyn’s invitation, but to begin to allow myself to be seen, I agreed. I expressed to her that I was in the midst of some form of identity crisis surrounding an inner conflict with my formal name Elizabeth vs Lisa my common name, which is short for Elizabeth. For most people, the names Liz and Beth are easily associated as shortened versions of Elizabeth. On the other hand, Lisa as a shortened version of Elizabeth seems to catch some people off guard and others think that they are entirely unrelated names. I believe that is where my conflict with my name may have begun many moons ago as a little girl. I still have people asking me is your name Elizabeth or Lisa?

This conflict continued throughout my life, the two versions of my name have created confusion with my friends and colleagues in a variety of social and professional situations depending on which name you knew me by and which name someone was calling me in a particular setting, either way I would always inevitably end up explaining how Lisa is short for Elizabeth or vice versa.

To further complicate matters, my last name is Kochanik and for some reason it just looks complicated to pronounce. It is a Slovak name, and is pronounced Ko-chan-ik. It seems simple enough to me, but to this day I have to help people with its pronunciation.

As I began to delve deeper into Resonance Repatterning, I began to realize that I resonated with the confusion and complication surrounding my name and that it was affecting me every time I had to introduce myself to others. I felt fragmented as though I was not sure which version of me I was showing up to the world as. Then, I remembered something a numerologist once emphasized to me about the importance of the vibration associated with my name. It was at that point that I began to think about how I feel as Elizabeth vs Lisa. When I think or say Elizabeth, my internal energy lifts me up a little higher and with Lisa the energy is tender, sweet and maybe a little timid.  I am fond of both names, but I am being guided towards using Elizabeth these days where in the past I introduced myself as Lisa first and Elizabeth was only in formal situations. There was a time not too long ago that even saying that my name is Elizabeth felt uncomfortable to me because I was completely disconnected from embodying myself as Elizabeth. Resonance Repatterning has played a large part in healing that disconnection and has helped me become a more authentic person and own who I am.

The repattering that my system choose this week to help me resonant with my name was the Earlier Experience Repatterning. It was right on target and it really shifted a lot of energy to help me resonate with being Elizabeth Kochanik. One of the statements that came through was, ‘In my relationships I am seen’, which is interesting because the reason that I agreed to write this for Carolyn was to start allowing myself to be seen and the baby picture qualities at the end of repatterning were also very interesting because of the high energy and excitement for life that I exuded as a baby, which is what I have been working toward having more of in my life as an adult. As I continue to work on this subject I am excited see what shifts my future repatternings bring for me!

Follow My Story! Your support is appreciated: Integrating Elizabeth as my working name is huge for me.  I plan to do all of the 26 repatternings using my overall intention for integrating my name for each one.   I will continue to share the outcomes of each of the 26 repatternings and how it has moved my goal forward.  I welcome you to share your name story and any suggestions you have found helpful in this journey.

Comments welcomed

Light and Love,

Elizabeth

What’s in a name?

In the resonance repatterning system we use muscle checking to determine what the body needs or what the body is resonating with. We deliberately use the term muscle checking because it’s very neutral. We are simply checking in with the body and asking for direction. Other practitioners prefer the term muscle testing. That is often found in a more medical setting like a chiropractor, naturopathic physician, homeopathic physician, or other more medical models. Can you remember being in grade school and having your teacher announce “get ready for your test”? Does your body still constrict when you hear that word “test”? What if the teacher said “I would like you to answer some questions for me so I can check in with you and make sure you’re clear about the material we covered this week”. Do you think that would have felt better? That’s energetically the difference between the word test and check in my opinion. Test tends to create an anxious response. Check is a touchstone. It tells us where we are at this moment without judgment.

What is muscle checking? It is applied kinesiology which has been a reliable biofeedback mechanism for decades. Our bodies continually respond to the smallest of signals from the outside environment and from the inside environment of our thoughts, feelings and body chemistry. The autonomic nervous system has two branches. The sympathetic nervous system referred to as SNS. The parasympathetic nervous system referred to as PNS. The SNS speeds things up so we get ready to go into action. The PNS slows things down and allows us to relax and bond. This creates the perfect balance within. The autonomic nervous system controls about 90% of our bodies functions: breathing, heartbeat, digestion and all the millions of cellular responses that keep us alive and healthy. Our muscles, approximately 600 of them, are also controlled mostly by our autonomic nervous system. Muscles are binary. They can only give two responses; they either tense up or relax. That makes muscle checking very reliable. With practice muscle checking is the key that opens the resonance repatterning system. When we touch a hot plate we instantly take our hand off that hot plate before we have time to think about it consciously. This automatic reflex prevents us from harm. This is one way we are wired for success and survival. Our autonomic nervous system lets us know what will support our survival and what does not. Our muscles respond so we can take appropriate action.

When we muscle check ourselves or another we are asking the system to tell us where we’re at. Are we handling stress? Are we relaxing once the stress is over? If our checking in process tells us we are not handling stress and we are not relaxing once the stress is over; it can also tell us what we can do to change that pattern. There are 127 options available in our system!

#3 of 26 in 52…Hearing Repatterning Reminder

2652How was your hearing repatterning? I was surprised with some of the statements that came up for me. It seems that my parents were arguing quite a bit when I was in utero. I felt responsible for their upset. My reaction was to constrict whenever I was exposed to loud voices. The end result was to avoid upsets and arguments completely. I decided to just go along and keep any contrary opinions to myself. Not very healthy or practical!

I would love to hear your results from this powerful repatterning. You can post any comments on this blog. I want to encourage you to keep all notes from these sessions. If you decide to become a certified practitioner these will satisfy the requirements of the RPA. You can also fill in the study guide in the back of each book and you will be on your way to receiving a diploma from the RRI. We are using the primary patterns book right now and you will soon have given yourself all the repatternings in this book. That is a wonderful accomplishment!

p.s. It’s not too late! You can easily catch up. We have completed the belief, seeing and hearing repatternings from the primary pattern book. Join us!

What I Know Now Because of Resonance Repatterning

NM LadyWhat if someone offered you a golden key that would unlock the secrets of the universe and of infinite human potential — would you be curious and courageous enough to accept it and use it?

What is this golden key I speak of and where can you get one, you ask? It is Resonance Repatterning. And the good news is that it is available for each and every one of us to use for our own infinite, personal growth. Lucky for me, I got curious enough to find it and courageous enough to use this gift to experience some amazing positive changes.

Here’s a little bit of what I know now as a result of applying Resonance Repatterning to my life…

  1. It’s me, it’s me, it’s always me! Whenever I feel annoyed, aggravated or bothered by someone or something they do, I quickly remember that it’s not them – it’s me. For example, I used to get bothered for days if a friend or family member forgot my birthday, immediately spiraling down into a self-pity party. But after much practice of looking inward and recognizing my own triggers (like someone forgetting my birthday), I am more empowered now to change my perspective on this type of scenario and look at it from a different angle.
  2. It’s not the drama. I used to blame events and people for my unhappiness. This was particularly true in my 20’s. If I didn’t get the job, apartment or boyfriend I wanted, I would not only go into long periods of misery, but worst of all, I would blame myself believing that I was damaged or broken inside. “Everyone else gets a break but me,” was my mantra. But, I know better now. Drama is always going to happen – war, family feuds, job loss, home foreclosures, etc. No matter what the drama is, I have but one purpose: To stay centered and at peace. My happiness will come from that, regardless of what event is occurring.
  3. It’s easier NOT to judge. Whenever I feel “boxed in” in my thinking or emotions, I remember this story: “A wise man won an expensive car in a lottery. His family and friends were very happy for him and came to celebrate. “Isn’t it great!” they said. “You are so lucky.” The man smiled and said, “Maybe.” For a few weeks he enjoyed driving the car. Then one day a drunken driver crashed into his new car at an intersection and he ended up in the hospital, with multiple injuries. His family and friends came to see him and said, “That was really unfortunate.” Again the man smiled and said, “Maybe.” While he was still in the hospital, one night there was a landslide and his house fell into the sea. Again his friends came the next day and said, “Weren’t you lucky to have been here in hospital.” Again he said, “Maybe.” The wise man’s “maybe” signifies a refusal to judge anything that happens. Instead of judging what is, he accepts it and enters into conscious alignment with the higher order. It is impossible for the mind to understand what place or purpose a seemingly random event has in the big picture. So isn’t it easier to remain open, non-judgmental and limitless in perspective?

The way I see it, my golden key has not only unlocked my own infinite potential, but has led me to create a new personal reality. How would you use this knowledge today to make your own personal change?

Sandra
