Taking our first independent breath at birth is a major event in our lives. Ideally this transition needs to be smooth and effortless. The baby needs to maintain connection with mom through the pulsation of the umbilical cord. When the cord is cut too soon it is registered as a shock for the baby. When the first breath- which often came by hanging the baby by the heels and smacking the behind! is associated with difficulty and pain- this gasping or irregular breathing may be recapitulated in many variations throughout life.
In my Breath Repatterning my earlier experience was age 8. I was playing hide and seek with friends and it was getting dark. I ran through a neighbors yard and right into a close line. I was unable to breath and the wind was knocked out of me. I suffered with allergies for most of my childhood and remember a constant stuffy nose. This time the Landau ready for action reflex came up.
I am now ready to breath deeply, connect with all my feelings and approach life with vitality and joy! How are you breathing?
